First Nations Day

First Nations Day was created in 1982 for Canadian Native people, and many people see this day as

 

an alternative to Victoria Day.  

In 1996 National Aboriginal Day was proclaimed as an official day of celebration, recognized by the Crown, for the Indian, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada. 

Many Aboriginal peoples celebrate the summer solstice, which has an important symbolism within their cultures.
